Asha E. Velay is an associate attorney with Alprin Law, having worked at the firm since the summer of 2017. While attending American University, Asha served on the executive board of her law school’s intellectual property publication, The IP Brief, where she wrote articles on relevant intellectual property issues in the news. Asha was also Vice President of the Sports and Entertainment Law Society as well as the Communications & Media Law Society. Additionally, Asha worked as a Dean’s Fellow for The Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property (PIJIP), the nationally recognized intellectual property and information law research and academic program of American University Washington College of Law. She was also a participant in the Community and Economic Development Legal Clinic, where she advocated for small businesses in the Washington metropolitan area. Asha is a member of the Maryland State Bar.

After law school, Asha worked in-house for an international food export company. In addition to playing a role in business development, she researched food industry regulatory compliance laws for the company’s corresponding African, South American, Middle Eastern, and European markets and oversaw the company’s trademark portfolio. Asha has an extensive marketing and public relations background. Prior to entering the legal field, Asha worked as a music publicist for a boutique artist management agency based out of New York City.

Asha's article entitled "Using the First Fair Use Factor to Screen DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) Takedowns" was published in the Virginia Sports and Entertainment Law Journal in the fall of 2017.
